Art Club Activities - Example Term
Please see below an example of the schedule of activities. The schedule is flexible and children will be able to take the session in the direction they want to explore. All activities are planned with a range of ages in mind and options will be adapted to suit the confidence of the individual child.
Session 1
Getting Inky!
In our first week, we will explore printing on a press and by hand! The kids will create their own print plates and practice applying washable water based ink using a roller before hand burnishing with a spoon. We will explore 'rainbow rolls', repeatable patterns and how printing turns things back to front!
Session 2
Figure painting and drawing
This week we will explore painting figures. First children will draw around one another on large rolls of paper and then collaborate to paint in the figures using colour and expression. Next we will look at drawing figures using shapes and the children will rotate, taking turns to be the 'model' striking poses while the rest of the group do a speed-sketch!
Session 3
Create your own stamp
We will explore how watercolour acts when we use a wash of colour over marks made with a white crayon on 'proper' watercolour paper. Once we have done some experimentation, we will paint our own starry 'sycamore tree' scene in watercolours, silhouetting a black tree and hillscape against a starry watercolour sky
Session 4
Printing on fabric
This is the week everyone will be looking forward to! The Inky Fingers club will be using their print plates from the week before to print on fabrics using safe wash inks. What better way to upcylce an old t-shirt or tea towel that needs a new look!
Session 5
Chat & Choose Session
Inky Finger members will be able to request activities or bring in their own projects with access to the art club materials. There will be a variety of hands on projects for the kids to get involved in
Session 6
Air dry clay modelling
This week we will create our own meal out of art and craft materials. Children will design and paint their own table cloths before painting their favourite meal on paper plates. Wooden cutlery will be paint in silver to completed the scene. Using air dry clay, they will then model their favourite pudding or sweet treat; this may be an ice-cream, a donut or a cookie and it can be painted up in the next session
